I thought it was hard enough running 13.1 or 26.2. Really I did…
But then you've got these special folks. Not for nuthin' but I wouldn't even want to walk around the block in these cumbersome things:

I guess a big boulder chasing me would inspire speed… My iPod would have to have that Indiana Jones 'chase' music on loop |
|
The flower is an interesting touch? |
|
Totally puzzled how this guy does it |
|
Uh. Can someone give me a 'hand' with opening my Gu?
I have friends who like to dress up for these things. I'm torn. I have a (little) sense of adventure but I barely like having my race bib on and usually don't even want to push a pair of sunglasses on my head - it bothers me. I can't imagine running with a costume and not being tortured by every second of it.
What about you?
Have you ever dressed up in costume for a race?
Would you ever?
Do you think you need to train in your costume to perform in it?
What's the best costume you've ever seen on someone else?
XO

well, you know where I stand on this one!
That Indian Jones one is brilliant!!!
I like a good costume because then I can blame any malfunctions, slow timing, need to walk etc etc on the costume, instead of my lack of endurance or training : ) The bigger and the more cumbersome the better.
I'm thinking of working stilts into my next one....
Freaking. Love. This.
I'm doing my first costume in Vegas!!!
Ha Sara - I so was going to call you out when I mentioned "friends" who like this type of thing! ;) STILTS!! hahaha - love it.
Emz, I heard about that -- Can't wait to see what you do!! :D
I know what Em is doing......but her secret is safe with me.
Also, I don't do costumes. I don't like to wear socks let alone additional clothing. I sweat like a pig and that just doesn't seem comfortable to me.
That being said I have a friend who ran Boston this year in a full-on gorilla costume and ran it in 3:30 or something crazy fast. The dude is an athletic freak of nature.
OMG - Jason - full on gorilla!? oofa.
I just read about a guy in California who's running in his 30lb firefighter gear to raise money - that's for a good cause.
Another guy ran the marathon leg of an Ironman that took place on 9-11 doing the same. had tears in my eyes.
Could NOT, plain and simple! But hats off to those who do...crazy!
Miss Zippy - I tend to be with you - thanks for the comment!
I've never run in a costume for a race. For a shorter race, I might consider it.
I have a friend who, recently, has taken up wearing costumes for shorter races (4 miles).
They always say - nothing new on race day...but how do you explain training in a costume? LOL
