I appreciate those of you who run without music. I may give that 'no music' thing a try sometime but for now, I LOVE running with music. Music inspires me, motivates me, moves me. It provides escape and enjoyment. I've "disco-gunned" thru tough spots, I've "banged my head" to distract me from pain and I've even belted out love songs and show tunes during long runs to keep the boredom at bay.
I am constantly on the hunt for good running songs.
Some of my faves right now are:
Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5
On The Floor - J. Lo.
Born This Way - GaGa
Raise Your Glass - P!nk
Beautiful Day - U2
S&M - Rihanna
All I do is Win- Wiz Kahlifa
Til I Collapse - Eminem
Paradise City - Guns N Roses
Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
Also Kimberley Locke has a great 4 song album called, "Four on The Floor" on iTunes - the whole album is great running music.

My favorites change on any given day. Tomorrow it might be Earth, Wind and Fire and Madonna. The next day it could be a White Stripe song and the Goo Goo Dolls.
So I'm wondering - what are your favorites? What do you consider the best? Or are you a non-music runner?

I don't know how I ever ran WITH music. I rode today for 2 hours and then had a 20 minute run right after. I listened to music while on the trainer and then kept the iPod in (BTW it is Karen's iPod as I don't own one) and I was blistering the run b/c of the music. It was as if I had no control over my body.....it was so weird.
That's so interesting to me! I am going to experiment running without music a little more in the future - but only when I'm running outside. I think that running on a treadmill, music (for me) is a requirement.
I was wondering what happened to my HR but it stayed right around 150 which is typical for me on an EZ run.
My only issue was that I couldn't hear myself breathing and I like to do that so I know how hard I'm pushing my body.
I can see how you could get more in tune with yourself. I will experiment with this at some point and report back!
I love ALL Pink songs for running. But mostly I listen to country songs.
Sounds like we listen to a lot of the same stuff - although - lately - I've been running without music. Not intentionally, the iPod just keeps getting left behind. Huh.
One of my favorites not listed? Fake it by Seether. If my run is going bad, nothing like Faking it. LOL. I also seem to have quite a few by the Black Eyed Peas. Oddly, I used to love Country music more before I started running - now I'm way more versatile.
Courtney, I really like P!nk too - she's got a few great running songs, I have a few 'pop' country songs like Carrie Underwood and Sheryl Crowe… I have a stray old school Kenny Rogers in there too. :)
Mandy, I'm going to go check out Fake It, ASAP!
Thanks for your comments.
I'm typically a non-music runner, but once in awhile I like a good song because it gives me a nice kick in the a$$ to get going!
Some of my all-time favorites include (I feel weird even listing songs I "run" to):
BEP I Gotta A Feeling
Journey Don't Stop Believing
And...um...welp, so much for that list! ;)
Maybe I'll go back to no music!
Sara, that BEP songs is still one of my favs to get me motivated! I crossed the finish line of my first half with that one (strategically) playing!
Love On the Floor for running but I am with Courtney, I tend to do a lot of country songs. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Running Mom - What are some country songs that you guys like? I'm a fan of country.
I used to be like you. I'd die if I forgot my iPod or the battery died but now that I'm running trails I've surprisingly turned off the music often. That being said, here are my top 3 songs that I never get tired of. They have been on my running mix for years and always get me going.
Beyonce - Get Me Bodied
Eminem - Lose Yourself
INXS - Pretty Vegas
And... for the record, I still haven't intentionally left for a run without my iPod.
Ang - you got me loving those songs too!! Pretty Vegas is a great one.
I use it for one of Serena Williams' speed training exercises. Run on the beat (which should be a bit slower than your normal pace) and lengthen your stride. There's a little bridge halfway through the song where you can do a few seconds or recovery. You can also do this exercise with Avril Levine's "I Don't Like Your Girlfriend." Lengthen your pace on the chorus and recover during the verses. The end of the some has a chorus/rap/chorus that is a killer. Good stuff!
That should have said end of the song not some. The HUGE downside of the iPhone is not having a keyboard. Everyone says I'll get used to it. So far no go.
cool, Ang - I'll try those songs - thanks!!
